Dr.Fahmida Gulshan obtained her Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering Degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka in 2003. She topped the list of the graduating students in her batch with a CGPA of 3.84 out of 4.00. She joined the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME), BUET in 2003. Then she obtained her Master of Science in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Degree from BUET in 2006. Dr. Gulshan obtained her PhD degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan in 2009. During her doctoral study she enjoyed the Monbukagakusho Scholarship (Japanese Government). Presently she is professor and current head of MME department, BUET.  She received INSA JRD TATA fellowship for the duration of July – September 2014 and conducted research at National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur, India. She visited Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland as visiting academic staff in 2016 for 2 months organized by Erasmus Mundus [European Union].She also visited University of Limerick, Ireland as visiting academic staff in 2018 for 2 months organized by Erasmus Mundus [European Union].

Her areas of interest include industrial waste recycling, e-waste recycling etc. She has published more than 80 papers in reviewed journals and conference proceedings. She has successfully completed several research projects as principal investigator financed by Department of Environment [Ministry of Environment], Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. She has supervised 8 MSc/Mphil thesis and some other student registered for MSc Engg of this university are now working under her supervision. She has also supervised several undergraduate thesis. She has visited India, Indonesia, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia, Japan, France , Poland, Ireland, Germany, Austria , Switzerland, Thailand to attend seminars/conferences/visiting academic/visiting researcher and for travelling. Besides her professional career she also graduated from the prestigious music school CHHAYANOT in 1994 and enjoys singing.
