Research and Publications:

Expertise in the field of metal extraction and recovery. Worked on upgradation of Zirconia from local Zircon sand; local beach sand titania and synthesis of nanocrystalline titania thin film for solar cell application; upgradation of locally available silica for solar grade silicon production. Also has research experience of photocatalytic activity of nanoparticles. Besides this working on industrial waste recycling of metallurgical plants and utilizing these wastes in construction industry.

In last 12 years received more than 4 crore BDT research funding.  Funding sourced from a variety of government (e.g., Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh) & academia (e.g., Directorate of Advisory, Extension and Research Service, Committee for Advanced Studies and Research, CASR, BUET) sources as well as several projects directly funded by industries (e.g., GPH ISPAT, Abul Khair Steels Ltd, etc). Also received funding from Erasmus International Credit Mobility Program of European Commission.
Collaborated with several academic, non-academic, and industrial organizations; Took initiative to establish International Collaboration between different foreign universities[listed below] and BUET to increase the capacities, key skills and international dimension of the organizations taking part and working/worked as focal person of these link programs. These programs allow student and staff mobility between BUET and foreign universities focusing on BUET students and staff to gain experience and develop better skills in some of the world leading research.

·         Academic Link Programme [2018-2020] between Wroclaw University of Science and Technology and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh .

 

Hosted international researchers from India, Ireland, Poland and USA for scientific exchange, training, and collaboration. Jointly working with Materials Science Division of Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and Bangladesh Centre of Scientific and Industrial Research, BCSIR on several projects. Closely work with local industries on different materials related projects

Dr Gulshan worked to start dual MSc program between University of Limerick, Ireland and BUET which is going to take place from September 2024.

Dr Gulshan took initiative to establish Materials Research Center (MRC) in BUET and got approval from University Grants Commission in 2020 to focus research activities on advanced materials and cutting-edge technology in the field of materials. She is now in charge of MRC. The center functions to undertake funded research programs aiming at solving the problems relating to materials processing and quality control of the industries, to help entrepreneurs to select possible new products and processes for their plants, and to develop competence in the field of technology forecast. MRC, under the leadership of Dr Gulshan is conducting extensive research with local and international collaborators from both academia and industries to identify national research priorities and crises, and solve the issues through its well-directed endeavours.
