HEQEP Sub Project Complete Proposal No. 3117
The University Grants Commission Board of Academic Innovation Fund (UGCBAIF) in its 28th meeting held on 12 June 2014 awarded a sub-project entitled “Development of Facilities to Study Hot Deformation Behaviour of Steel and Light Alloy Materials” for the 3rd round AIF in Window 2 Research.
Implementation Period: 02 (Two) Years
Commencement: 1st July 2014
Completion: 30 June 2016

General Objectives of the Sub-project
1. To develop a scientific base required to optimise energy efficient routes for thermo-mechanical forming (such as rolling) of steel and advanced light alloy materials by establishing a high temperature deformation study laboratory
2. To extend understanding of locally used bulk deformation routes of these materials through competitive postgraduate research leading to MSc and PhD degrees, and developing microstructure sensitive models and innovative techniques for formability in higher strength, lower ductility materials and recycled alloys.
The department was also awarded another sub-project during the 1st round of AIF. It was completed few months earlier.
